A company’s core values are at the heart of its operations and culture. Yet, not all companies or leaders make their core values explicit or even realize why they should. On this episode of The TalentGrow Show, Halelly speaks with Saxo Bank co-founder and former co-CEO Lars Seier Christensen about the seven values that Lars embedded into the culture of Saxo Bank and why it’s incredibly important to make your company values explicit. You’ll learn why Lars chose the seven values that he did and how they each contributed to a successful and thriving company culture. Not sure how to prioritize certain values or narrow down your most ‘core’ values? Lars and Halelly discuss how to think about the hierarchies and relationships between values as well. Learn the why and how of giving immediate and frequent feedback – both positive and constructive. Plus, discover which philosopher had a powerful impact on Lars and his leadership ethic. Listen and share with others in your network!

Is there a difference between being a leader and being a manager? Is one better than the other? Does one beget or require the other? Should we even be asking these questions?? Here’s another Ask Halelly episode of the TalentGrow Show, where Halelly answers a question from a listener, a learner in one of her corporate workshops, a member of the audience at one of her conference speaking events, or a member of the media. This week’s question came from a reporter who interviewed Halelly for a Fast Company article about this very issue. Halelly’s answer: Yeah, there is a difference. But, STOP SPLITTING HAIRS about it already! She explains why she loves to hate this question and wishes it would go away. Plus, she shares about a couple of exchanges she had about this on Twitter – were they favorable? Take a listen, weigh in with your own opinion, and share with others!

Selfishness is a word that typically connotes serving oneself at the expense of others. But Dr. Steve Orma, clinical psychologist and host of the Selfish For Success podcast, explains why this definition is a dangerous package-deal that vilifies a healthy concern for one’s own self-interest. The result? Guilt and internal conflict. On this episode of The TalentGrow Show, Halelly and Steve discuss how leaders are negatively impacted by this cultural stigma against selfishness and what steps you can take to upgrade your leadership effectiveness by embracing your self-interest. How much responsibility should you take on as a leader and how much should you leave to your team? What makes a leader respected? What should you do if you start to feel that you’re not on the right career path? Listen to get Dr. Orma’s take on these questions and more. Plus, learn the crucial difference between serving others and being subservient and how that knowledge can impact your success as a leader. Give this a listen and share with others in your network!

Redefining what is often meant by win-win and challenging us to feel ‘worthy of winning,’ Rob not only shares seven skills to upgrade our effectiveness as negotiators, but provides a moral framework to dispel the negative cultural attitudes that make us shy away from bold, self-interested, and effective negotiation. It’s time for another super short and highly informative Ask Halelly episode of the TalentGrow Show, where Halelly answers a question from a listener, a learner in one of her corporate workshops, a member of the audience at one of her conference speaking events, or a member of the media. This week’s question is: “What should I do if my senior manager is playing favorites with my team?” Halelly’s Answer: Of course, it depends on the context such as your relationship with the senior manager. In general, you need to advocate to protect your authority to influence decisions about your team more directly. But of course, beware of your blind-spots and approach the situation tentatively, with curiosity instead of accusatory judgment. Halelly even shares a personal story about a time when this happened to her. Get the deets by listening to the full episode (it’s only ~6 minutes long!) and be sure to submit your own question that might be featured on a future episode of Ask Halelly on the TalentGrow Show!
